#2021APPAM - APPAM's 43rd Annual Fall Research Conference will feature a full line-up of awards and this email is the place to find out everything about them, from eligibility to submissions and more. We will be awarding the David N. Kershaw Award, Policy Field Distinguished Contribution Award (NEW IN 2021!) Ph.D. Dissertation Award, as well as the World Citizen Prizes in Environmental Performance and the Student and Young Professional (NEW IN 2021!) The David N. Kershaw Award and Prize was established to honor persons who, before age of 40, have made distinguished contributions to the field of public policy analysis and management. This award particularly seeks to recognize original contributions to research-based knowledge that have advanced the design, implementation, and evaluation of public policies.
 
The recipient will be invited to deliver a lecture in a Conference Super Session and will receive a cash prize of $20,000 at the Awards Reception & Presidential Address. In order to nominate an individual please fill out this form by May 31, 2021.

The APPAM Equity & Inclusion Young Professional Fellowship (new this year!) will support up 5 young professionals from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds at the APPAM Fall Research Conference. Applicants must be within five years of receiving their Masters or PhD Degrees. The recipients will be recognized for their accomplishments and will also have opportunities to formally network with each other, Student Equity and Inclusion Fellowship Recipients and with members of the Policy Council and Diversity Committee. They will also have many opportunities to informally network with other students and professionals during the conference.

The APPAM Equity & Inclusion Student Fellowship supports the travel and participation of up to 40 students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds at the APPAM Fall Research Conference. While at the conference, the fellowship recipients will have the opportunity to formally network with each other and with members of the Policy Council and Diversity Committee, recognizing them, their accomplishments and bright futures.
 
They will also have many opportunities to informally network with other students and professionals during the conference. The goal of this fellowship program is to introduce recipients to the world of public policy and APPAM, and foster a lifelong affiliation and engagement with both.

The Policy Field Distinguished Contribution Award, brand new this year, will honor persons who have made significant and long-term contributions to the development of and growth of Public Policy Analysis and Management as a field. Such contributions can include (but are not limited to) critical or path-breaking research, core textbooks, substantial contribution to actual policymaking, significant contribution to APPAM as an organization, and significant contribution to the Journal for Policy Analysis and Management (JPAM). While not a lifetime achievement award, the purpose of this award is to recognize those who have sustained and contributed to our relatively young field over many years.
 
The recipient will be honored at the Fall Research Conference and will receive a plaque. To be considered for the award, the application should include a letter of nomination, CV, and contact information. Nominations should be made via email to Samantha Oliver Thomason at soliver@appam.org by July 12, 2021.

The Ph.D Dissertation Award seeks to recognize emergent scholars in the field by presenting an award for the best Ph.D. dissertation in public policy and management. Any dissertation that has been completed in the academic years 2019/2020 or 2020/2021 and granted a degree in that period is eligible for consideration. Winners receive a cash award in the amount of $1,500 in addition to a plaque, recognition at the annual APPAM Fall Research Conference, and publication of an abstract in the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management. Nominations must come from institutional members of APPAM (but not necessarily from the institution that granted the degree) by July 12, 2021.

The World Citizen Prizes in Environmental Performance, now in its third year, is granted by David and Joy K. Peyton, and recognizes research that assesses pathways to achieve measurable but as-yet unrealized gains in overall environmental performance, in particular to reduce consumption and waste. The research may be based on the United States or any other country or countries.

 
The work should recognize research that assesses pathways to achieve measurable but as-yet unrealized gains in overall environmental performance, in particular to reduce consumption, waste, and global warming. Up to two World Citizen Prizes in Environmental Performance can be granted each year. Each prize consist of: A $2,500 prize in the form of a check made out to the winner, up to $500 in travel funds supporting attendance at the APPAM Annual Fall Research Conference, a plaque with the award title, description, their name, and the year, and recognition at an awards event at the conference.
