Registration discounts are available for government employees but you must have a valid government (.gov) email. Please email  registration@appam.org, from your government email to receive a 15% discount on Early and Regular registration rates. Discounts will not be offered for onsite registration. Only individuals with valid .gov email addresses are eligible for this discount.

The hotel is located near DuPont Circle and Adams Morgan in downtown Washington D.C.

The #2022APPAM hotel block is now closed.

Airport Information

Attendees should plan to use one of three airports:

Ground Transportation

  • Car Rental: Those wishing to rent a car may do so with most major rental companies at any of the three airports. The Washington Hilton offers parking rates of $54/day for self-park.
     
  • Ridesharing & Taxis: Taxis, Uber, and Lyft are all readily available in the Washington D.C. area and can be taken from the airport to the hotel. 
     
  • D.C. Metro: Attendees are able to access the metro from the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The hotel is a 9 minute walk from the DuPont Circle Metro Station on the Red Line.

 

COVID-19 Vaccine Information

We will be requiring all attendees to upload proof of vaccination before attending the conference. Proof of full vaccination consists of your vaccine card with two shots by November 1, 2022 per the CDC's recommendation. To save time onsite, please upload a photo of your card to 42chat. Once uploaded, staff from 42chat will review and approve vaccine cards. All information uploaded is confidential. 

Once approved, you will receive an approved status text that will show your name and a green checkmark. You must show the approved green checkmark screen at the time of badge pickup. ​

November 14 Update: The pre-conference vaccine upload deadline has passed. If you did not verify your card via 42Chat by Sunday, November 13, you must report to the Onsite Registration desk and show a physical or photocopy of your card before your badge will print. Please arrive early - there may be a line.

This year we are excited to have a record number of registrants joining us at #2022APPAM, but this also means to expect long wait times if you choose to not upload your vaccine card in advance. If you do not have proof of vaccination, you will not be able to participate in the conference in any capacity and you will be asked to leave. There are no exemptions or exceptions.

2024 Fall Research Conference Questions

Questions & Answers

Q: How is the conference theme selected, and what is its purpose?

A:

The APPAM president-elect is the chairperson of the Program Committee and selects the theme for that year's Fall Research Conference. APPAM began the practice of selecting themes for the Fall Research Conference in 1994. The theme shapes several aspects of the conference, including the special symposia, outreach by APPAM to research on new topics, and the overall response to the Call for Proposals.

Q: When and where is the 2024 Fall Research Conference being held?

A:

The 2024 Fall Research Conference will be held November 21 - 23, 2024 in National Harbor, MD. There will also be governance meetings held on Wednesday, November 20.

Q: Do I have to register online for the conference?

A:

All registrations in advance must be completed at APPAM.org. Registrations can be made using Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express cards. 

Please note that during the registration process, you will be given the opportunity to print an invoice for your registration should you not wish to pay online. You must send that invoice, along with your payment, to the APPAM office if you choose this option.

No, the conference is fully in-person in National Harbor, MD.

Q: What meals are included with registration?

A:

As of right now, the registration fee includes all sessions & special events, such as:

  • Daily exhibit hall refreshments Thursday – Saturday morning (coffee, tea, and light breakfast fare) and afternoon refreshment breaks (coffee, tea, and snacks) on Thursday & Friday (no RSVP required).
  • Thursday afternoon includes a complimentary Membership and Awards luncheon (RSVP required during registration).
  • Thursday evening includes a Presidential Address with hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
  • Lunch is not provided Friday, but Friday evening includes a complimentary Poster Reception with hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
  • Saturday afternoon includes a complimentary poster luncheon.

Q: Can I go to the Membership Lunch if I didn't register for it?

A:

Unregistered guests may attend on a first-come, first-served basis.

Q: Can I attend a Wellness Session if I didn't register in advance?

A:

Guests without an RSVP may join the Wellness Sessions on a first-come, first-served basis.

Private family restrooms are located throughout the Gaylord property. Check the custom maps in the mobile app for the closest location.

You must wear your badge at all APPAM events throughout the conference.

Q: Where can I purchase lunch or coffee?

A:

Guests are able to purchase lunch, snacks, or coffee at the Potomac District Cafe & Market at the Gaylord.

Q: Where is a quiet/prayer room?

A:

The Quiet/Prayer room is open from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22, and on Saturday, November 23 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM in Chesapeake 11 (Ballroom Level).

Q: How does the Headshot Lounge work?

The Headshot Lounge will be open at various times in Potomac AB from Thursday, November 21 through Saturday, November 23. See the event listing for full details.

This headshot service is complimentary, first-come, first-served, and participants will receive their headshots on the spot.

The Equity & Inclusion Fellows meet up is for current fellows only.

Q: Will sessions be recorded?

A:

No, sessions will not be recorded at the conference unless special permission has been given to a session's presenter.

Q: Can I attend Speed Mentoring if I didn't sign up beforehand?

A:

A small number of spaces will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Arrive at 6:45 pm.
