*Student rates are for student members only.

Registration discounts are available for government employees but you must have a valid government (.gov) email. Please email  registration@appam.org, from your government email to receive a 15% discount on Early and Regular registration rates. Discounts will not be offered for onsite registration. Only individuals with valid .gov email addresses are eligible for this discount. 

Discount codes are not stackable (one valid per registrant) - please use the higher or preferred discount code before checkout.

  • Ronald Regan National Airport (DCA) is located approximately 8 miles (15 minutes) from the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is  located approximately 35 miles (60 minutes) from the Gaylord National Resort.
  • Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) is located approximately 42 miles (60 minutes) from the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.

Shuttle Information

APPAM will provide a complimentary shuttle service between the Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station in Alexandria, VA and the Gaylord National Harbor Hotel on Thursday, November 21 through Saturday, November 23. Please note: Luggage is not allowed on the shuttle.

The Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station is located on the Yellow line, about a 10 minute drive from the Gaylord, depending on traffic. See a full map of the DC Metro system.

Pick-up at the Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station will be at the Kiss and Ride drop-off in front of the station. Gaylord pick-up will be at the bus loop by the Maryland ballroom.

Family Resources

APPAM is excited to offer amenities to make conference participation easier for parents and legal guardians and other caregivers providing support to dependents, both at home and at the conference. Applicants must be paid, in-person registrants for the 2024 APPAM Fall Research Conference prior to their application being approved. All reimbursement checks will be sent in the week following the conference.

Dependent Care Grants

APPAM is pleased to once again offer registered attendees the opportunity to apply for dependent care grants. Grants, of up to $400, are available for attendees of the APPAM Fall Research Conference who have child or dependent care obligations. Grant funds are limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first served basis with preference given to APPAM members who are full-time students and/or have received their terminal degree in the last 10 years. 

Dependent Care Grants applications are now closed due to overwhelming demand.

Lactation Lounge

The Lactation Lounge is located in the main lobby of the hotel.  If an individual would like to use this space, they will need to obtain a key from the front desk. In order to store milk, they will need to provide the milk in a labeled zip lock bag. The milk will be kept in a fridge behind the concierge's desk. They will be required to sign in and out of the room.

Gender Neutral/Family Restrooms

There are individual restrooms available throughout the Gaylord that may be used for family or gender neutral restrooms. Please see a hotel map or staff member to locate the nearest facility.

2024 Fall Research Conference Questions

Questions & Answers

Q: How is the conference theme selected, and what is its purpose?

A:

The APPAM president-elect is the chairperson of the Program Committee and selects the theme for that year's Fall Research Conference. APPAM began the practice of selecting themes for the Fall Research Conference in 1994. The theme shapes several aspects of the conference, including the special symposia, outreach by APPAM to research on new topics, and the overall response to the Call for Proposals.

Q: When and where is the 2024 Fall Research Conference being held?

A:

The 2024 Fall Research Conference will be held November 21 - 23, 2024 in National Harbor, MD. There will also be governance meetings held on Wednesday, November 20.

Q: Do I have to register online for the conference?

A:

All registrations in advance must be completed at APPAM.org. Registrations can be made using Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express cards. 

Please note that during the registration process, you will be given the opportunity to print an invoice for your registration should you not wish to pay online. You must send that invoice, along with your payment, to the APPAM office if you choose this option.

No, the conference is fully in-person in National Harbor, MD.

Q: What meals are included with registration?

A:

As of right now, the registration fee includes all sessions & special events, such as:

  • Daily exhibit hall refreshments Thursday – Saturday morning (coffee, tea, and light breakfast fare) and afternoon refreshment breaks (coffee, tea, and snacks) on Thursday & Friday (no RSVP required).
  • Thursday afternoon includes a complimentary Membership and Awards luncheon (RSVP required during registration).
  • Thursday evening includes a Presidential Address with hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
  • Lunch is not provided Friday, but Friday evening includes a complimentary Poster Reception with hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
  • Saturday afternoon includes a complimentary poster luncheon.

Unregistered guests may attend on a first-come, first-served basis.

Q: Where is a quiet/prayer room?

A:

The Quiet/Prayer room is open from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22, and on Saturday, November 23 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM in Chesapeake 11 (Ballroom Level).

No, sessions will not be recorded at the conference unless special permission has been given to a session's presenter.
